S.
Gunam Singh Bhogal born to Smt Puran Kaur Nandra on 8th
September 1936 in a village Pattara, Dist Jalandhar. His father S
Sadhu Singh Bhogal was a master craftsman and woodworker. He had
spent few years of his life in Nairobi.
S. Gurnam Singh
did primary and middle from his village school. He completed his
matriculation from Jalandhar and F.A from N.D.Victory High School in
1955. Then he went to Africa and joined his father. He observed that
education is a path of success while helping his father in work,
side by side he graduated himself in Commerce at Nairobi. He did
various jobs in Africa. He joined the African Government job in
finance department as clerk. He had regularly updated himself while
doing various courses to get better job.
In 1962 while
observing the political changes in the coming years in Africa S.
Gurnam Singh shifted to UK and joined his elder brother S. Gian
Singh at Wolverhampton, UK . In those days the racial discrimination
was at its peak. He tried his luck
on various job but could not succeed. Once he was offered a job in
an English company. His supervisor compelled him to cut his hair and
remove his turban to get job. He explained the supervisor that he is
baptized Sikh if he cut his hair by his order then lord “WAHEGUR”
punish him (the supervisor) for this great sin and he will be
responsible for his fate on this act. While listing his explanation
about Sikhism the supervisor allowed him to join duty with turban.
He joined the company as a helper but with his sincerity and honesty
he retired as supervisor in 1985 after 22 yrs of his dedicated
service to the company. He was honoured with 22 yrs service award by
the company. He is still a proud turbaned Sikh. |
